We wrongly assumed that all horsey people had lungeing equipment in their tack rooms. It seems that many of you are trying lungeing for the first time or have old bits of tack that need replacing. We have decided to carry a small range of lungeing accessories so that we can equip you with as much or as little as you need. There is a large range of lungeing equipment available from retailers but much of it we would not use ourselves so we have chosen to stock only those items that we are happy to use on our horses and feel happy to recommend to others.
We do not generally like lungeing cavessons as they are extremely heavy on the front of the nose and don't often fit very well. We found a lovely lightweight practical lungeing cavesson from Shires that is softly padded and is more 'head collar' shaped and therefore fits better. Made from strong nylon webbing with three metal rings on the noseband, we think this is an excellent addition to the tack room. Unless your horse is a thug or takes the Mickey a bit, you should avoid lungeing from the bit as this disturbs the even contact that is created by the training aid. Lungeing from the bit can cause sideways pressure on the mouth and inward head tilt which are both undesirable, unless the lunge rein is slack all the time.

The cavessons come in navy or green, pony, cob or full size.

The lungeing roller should be well designed, confortable and have a large D ring on each side to allow the training aid to pass through. We found a brilliant fully adjustable roller at a good suppliers in Walsall. It has the right type of rings and it is generously lined with simulated sheep's wool to prevent rubbing. Available in black and one size, it adjusts enough to fit most sizes, though you could use your own very small or large girth if necessary.

Lunge reins are a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer a light thin one whilst others may prefer a padded heavier rein. Cotton is safer for your hands, so we offer a strong woven cotton lunge rein from Shires, 9.5m long in white only (pictured). The Aerborn comfort web comes in various colours or we have a lightweight (thin) brown lunge rein for those who like a lighter feel.

It is important to protect your horse's legs whilst lungeing as working on a circle makes them more likely to brush. We use Shires' neoprene brushing boots which have a full length strike pad and touch and close fastenings. They wash and dry quickly and offer protection without being cumbersome or fiddly. They come in pairs and are available in pony, cob and full size and we stock them in black and white.
Some people prefer to use elasticated bandages which also give good protection to the horse whilst lungeing. Again this is down to personal preference. We stock Shires elasticated supportive exercise bandages in navy, white or pink and these come in sets of four. They are 10cm wide and stretch to 450cm and are 95% cotton and 5% elastane construction.
We also carry stocks of lungeing whips, gloves (a must-have for all who lunge), saddle cloths and hoof picks which can be purchased from us when we have a trade stand at various events. P&P is to UK destinations; P&P to other areas is available at checkout.
