Fred & Rowena Cook & EquiAmi's Lunge Cavesson

EquiAmi have just launched a new cavesson for lunge work; and knowing our objection to the traditional cavesson - heavy, cumbersome and rattling rings which bounce on the nose - asked if we would give our opinion.

The immediate factor we like is that the the cavesson is extremely lightweight so especially ideal for young horses or those that have issues around the head (such as nerve damage). The cavesson fits very well but has plenty of scope for adjustment - noseband, throat area and headpiece, which would also allow the cavesson to be used over a bridle if required. However there are optional bit straps so a bit can be added. This is a very useful innovation as it allows a young or bit-shy horse to become accustomed to carrying a bit without any line or lead rope being attached directly to it. So often with cavessons, the moment a lunge line is attached to any of the rings, they slip to one side causing the cheek piece on the off side to move and lay extremely close to the eye which is not at all satisfactory.

This is most definately not the case with this cavesson; it remains firmly in place regardless of which ring is used. The noseband is well-padded and the rings are fixed in a way so that they do not move/bounce as the horse moves in trot or canter. We have no hesitation in recommending the Equiami Lunge Cavesson.

Any piece of equipment used on a horse much be comfortable so as to help promote the necessary relaxation required for a horse to work properly. In this cavesson, Equiami have produced a very well made, lightweight cavesson which is comfortable, fits rxtremely well and works in harmony with the horse.
